Posted by Jussi Rasinmäki on January 18, 2011
Finnish newspaper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus published an article on January 14th, 2011 on the Social Forest Planning project in which we develop a Planning Engine that can be run with input from a wide variety of data sources, like the images taken with a mobile phone camera. The Engine then produces automatically forest management plans that match the goals set by the property owner. The plan is updated in real time and is accessible with a web browser. Here’s the article (in Finnish)

We are participating in a Tekes funded research project “Social Forest Planning”. The project is led by VTT and other participants include MosaicMill Oy, University of Helsinki and Stora Enso Ltd.
Our role is to integrate different data sources for forest inventory data to provide a forest management plan that automatically adapts to the data sources available. The plan that is accessible though the net is updated in real time as new data arrives.
